Young Writers Workshops with Helena Fox
What a Wonderful World! (Creating vibrant settings)
11.30am-1.30pm for Ages 10-13

Do you like world-building and inventing exciting places for your characters to play in? In this two-hour workshop, we will investigate how to create fantastical and compelling worlds for our stories, thinking about everything from physical geography to possible magic systems, to what the occupants of your story look like and how they behave. We will do a lot of fun, relaxed writing prompts, and even do some drawing, as we create wonderful worlds together. BOOK NOW

Who Are You? (Exploring character and voice)
2.30pm-4.30pm for Ages 14-18

Characters are the cornerstones of any story, and stories shine brightest when those characters are distinct and three-dimensional. In this workshop we will explore the different ways characters can look, think, move and interact with each other, as well as learn the things they want and what makes them tick. We will also explore and celebrate our storytelling voices—from character and narrative voice to our own unique writing style. About The Young Writers Program
The Young Writers Program is led by Prime Minister’s Award for Young Adult Fiction winning author Helena Fox. Helena has mentored young writers and adults for over ten years, running numerous creative workshops privately, in schools, and at the South Coast Writers Centre. In 2020, her debut novel How it Feels to Float won the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Writing for Young Adults and well as the Prime Minister’s Award. Helena's passion is to support writers in her community, and especially to help young writers feel seen, heard, and empowered through their writing.
