The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) was founded in 1959 through the concerted efforts, vision and energy of the late Bishop Gordon Begbie and a dedicated band of 'founding parents' who firmly believed in the need for a regional Anglican school to be based in the Illawarra.
The vision and philosophy of those families to fully develop young people spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically in order that they might enter society with strong Christian Foundations to lead and serve are still followed today. The School has come a long way in its short history thanks to the leadership of successive administrations and the dedicated support of its many families.
TIGS now has an enrolment of over 1000 students, Preparatory to Year 12, housed in a modern educational setting with a well-established and acknowledged reputation for delivering programs of excellence.
TIGS Prep is a preschool programme for children aged 3 – 5 years. Our dedicated early learning space has four age-grouped classrooms and operates year-round from 7.30am – 5.30pm, with a two-week break over Christmas.
TIGS Prep has once again been awarded an overall rating of Exceeding by ACECQA. TIGS Prep were commended for their willingness to collaborate with families and other community organisations to enhance children's learning and wellbeing.
TIGS Prep is highly sought after by families seeking a strong foundation for Kindergarten.
The programme is run by full-time university qualified teachers, supported by early childhood qualified assistants. On arrival, children can engage in various learning experiences set-up by educators in our indoor and outdoor learning environments. This learning and discovery time allows parents to settle their children and engage with educators.
