Lake Illawarra – The gorgeous Lake Illawarra sometimes seems like a bit of a hidden gem. Loved by locals, the 33 square kilometre lake is home to
plenty of great spots for fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, boating and generally frolicking in the water.
Reddall Reserve on the foreshore is a great spot for a bike ride and picnic, thanks to its playground, bathrooms and kiosk, while Windang Beach is ideal for paddling, swimming or a BBQ, the flat calm water is great for small kids although watch out for the fast flowing tides.
The brand new Kanahooka playground on Lakeside Drive on the other side of the Lake is also worth a visit, especially for littlies. This is about a 20 minute drive from Reddall Reserve around Lake Illawarra (good for if your little ones need a nap in the car from all that activity!)
This new play park was developed in consultation with students from two local schools and has been a massive hit with kids and parents alike! Plus it has plenty of natural areas for nature loving kids to immerse themselves in too.
Pack up a picnic and come and explore this stunning part of the Illawarra, or grab some fish and chips on the way home if you make it a whole day adventure (if your kids last out that long with all the fresh air, adventure and activity!)
ENJOY! Love from Jenny and Katelyn
