The unique event that Sydneysiders flock down for – but do YOU know about it?

EXPERIENCE SITEWORKS! WHERE NATURE, LEARNING, ARTS, SCIENCE AND CAMPING COLLIDE…

The annual Bundanon Siteworks event is BACK on the 29th September  and as always, it promises to be a doozy.

Haven’t heard of Siteworks? Prepare to be amazed! This yearly event is based in the stunning grounds of Bundanon Illarroo (near Nowra and about 80mins drive from Wollongong). It's all about bringing scientists, artists and community voices together to shake up our thinking by throwing some wild yet amazing ideas and educational experiences out there.

Fun-family-festival lovers note, there's delish food, a bar,  a DJ in the evening plus camping on offer! Camping is seriously limited however and only available when pre-booked so keep reading to lock in your spot below.

Interestingly, Sydney-siders flock down to this event as there is genuinely no other event like Siteworks around. How often do you find a high quality cultural event that is also family friendly? Here at Parents Guide Illawarra, we are celebrating that this uniquely wonderful event is on our Southern Illawarra doorstep.

Appealing to families with a sense of adventure and an appreciation of nature, science and arts, Siteworks explores a different theme each year. From ghosts (2016) to biodiversity (2014) and the birds and the bees (2017), this completely unique event combines ‘create and make’ workshops (for big and little people), artwork, conversation, music and a whole bunch of delish local food (always essential). As mentioned, there's a bar from late afternoon and the evening artworks are followed by a DJ.

In 2018, the theme is Micro: Little things mean a lot. Exploring the ‘little things’ will take the form of tiny gods, dancing spiders and microbes in both the soil and your gut.. plus plenty more. Your kids won’t notice the ‘high calibre educational quality content’ as they will be too busy experiencing it! By bedtime they'll be all tuckered out from navigating the amazing bushland setting.

The breadth of fun, immersive and educational experiences are spread far and wide across the open fields of Bundanon and at different times, so Siteworks has become is a lovely option for Autistic children or those with sensory issues as they can roam without navigating crowds and noise.

Miles Merrill, Sydney poet and performance artist followed by many, will be facilitating 'Big Talk for Small Folk' with students from Cambewarra Public School. They'll tackle moral dilemmas, enabling our children’s voices and contributions to be heard. Hearing fresh perspectives on complex philosophical issues via our school children is a win for us all. Get set for some respectful, constructive conversation with your kids about all things that matter after this session.

Want to enjoy the full immersive experience? Siteworks offers on-site camping. Why drive home when you can snuggle up and enjoy the sunset and sunrise (if you’re up early enough!) Be warned however, this is ‘proper’ camping; read no showers/ATM’s etc on-site so you’ll need to pack accordingly! It also books out super quick so get in early if pitching a tent floats your boat! Click here to book tickets for camping…

Siteworks will be held on Saturday 29th September at Bundanon homestead and grounds from 12pm until late. Entry is $12 for adults, $8 for a concession and children under 16 are free. Booking fees may apply and camping costs are an additional $10 per person. Pre book now - click here!

Want a public adventure with the kids too? There is also a shuttle bus running throughout the event, travelling from Nowra Bus Terminal (Stewart Place) and Bomaderry Train Station from only $5 return. Like the camping, this must be pre-booked – click here for the info.

Thank you to Bundanon for organising Siteworks and for working in partnership in Parents Guide Illawarra to get word out there through this sponsored article - this is a local event too good to miss whatever the age and stage of your kids!

For more information visit the Siteworks website and we’ll see you there - we can't wait!!
